Back at Brentwood once again for Round 6 of the Super League, and this week I had a 6-place grid penalty from last week, so I knew it was going to be tough. On top of that, we were on the B track, which meant I had to take some time to remember how to race on it.
In qualifying, I managed to secure P5, which was pretty good since I had the inside line. But for the B track, I knew it was going to be absolute chaos. Off the line, I got a decent start, especially considering I had to carry an extra 5kg this week as I'm in the top 5 of the championship. I made up a place right at the start, moving into P4. It took me a few laps to get past the kart in front, but once I did, I was flying and trying to catch up to P2. Unfortunately, his kart was rapid out of the corners, which is exactly what you need on the B track, and mine just wasn’t. So, I had to settle for P3, which I was still happy with.
Next was Heat 2 qualifying, and this time I qualified one place higher in P4, which put me on the outside. I quickly maneuvered into P5, which wasn’t terrible, but I knew I just had to put my head down and push. Heading into Turn 1, I got a great run out of the last corner, giving me the opportunity to send it up the inside. That move put me back into P4, and I was soon closing in on the kart ahead. When I spotted a gap at the hairpin, I dove to the inside and took P3. He started getting faster after that, so I had to defend hard for the rest of the race, but I finished P3 again, which I was pleased with.
However, when I saw my name in the B Final, I was devastated. All I had to do was finish in the top 2 to make it to the A Final, but with three karts ahead, I knew it would be a challenge. At the start, I was once again on the outside but quickly moved to the inside, which helped me get into P3. I was charging to catch up to the pack in front, but the kart behind had other ideas. They went for a ridiculous gap that was never going to work, and we both got taken out of the race. I was gutted, but I knew anything could still happen, so I kept pushing. Sadly, the miracle never came, and I ended up finishing P8. It definitely could have been better, but that’s racing.
On the bright side, I won’t have a grid penalty next week, so that should give me the advantage I need to hopefully come back stronger!
