We are back at Brentwood Karting for Round 5 of the championship. We started off with qualifying, and I qualified P6 for Heat 1, which wasn’t too bad. I was only 0.04 seconds off P5, so it was really a decent qualifying session. Unfortunately, Heat 1 couldn’t have gone much worse. At the start of the race, I made up positions and ended up in P4. However, a driver attempted to send it up the inside, even though the gap wasn’t there for the move. He ended up taking me out of the race, putting me in P10. It got worse when I was hit off again, which put me last. A pretty terrible race, to say the least, but anything can happen in Heat 2.
For Heat 2 qualifying, I secured pole position. I had a good start to the race, pulling away from the pack behind, but the two karts behind me began to catch up. I had to defend for the rest of the race, but I ended up winning this one.
These two results put me in P7 for the A final, which I was really pleased about, especially considering the first heat result. It was a good start as I was positioned on the inside, and I made up three places at the start, moving up to P4. For the rest of the race, I slowly moved up the field and ended up finishing P2 a really good result that shows why you should never give up until the chequered flag.
Next week, I will have an 8-place grid drop, so that week will be all about damage limitation. I hope to continue performing like this.
