Brentwood Super League - Season 2 - Round 7

Updated: Sep 18

So we are back at Brentwood Karting for Round 7 of the Super League & I think the biggest question on everyones lips at the moment is.......

IS IT EVER GOING TO STOP RAINING?!?!?

I remember towards the end of last year I was desperate for some wet racing & now I just want some sunshine, this has without doubt been the wettest I've ever seen since starting karting. As soon as the kit is finally all dried out, it hammers it down again & we are back to square one.

You guessed it, today was no exception & its was hammering it down again. This made Quali exceptionally difficult as there was so much standing water but I managed to Qualify P2 which I was pleased with. In these conditions it also meant that I had a better track position on the outside, so was hoping for good things.

Everything was going really good with myself and P1 as we was working together to get the gap from the chasing pack. During the race P1 made a mistake and went wide, this allowed me to seize the lead. Although he quickly regained the lead, he made another error that gave me the opportunity to overtake him again on the final lap. This is where I was then spun around and an ABC issued in my favour but there wasn't enough time for me to reclaim the lead before the race ended. The result was disappointing and I felt very frustrated with the outcome as that would have been good championship points for me.

Next up was Heat 2 and I was starting P4. I didn't get the best of starts but managed to get myself into P3 by the end of the 1st lap. The conditions were getting trickier with every passing lap and in the end I dropped down to P5, not a total disaster, but equally not the best but I had some good battles throughout.

I couldn't believe it but I actually made it straight into the A Final today and although was starting near the back of the pack at least there was a possibility of making something happen. The start was actually quite good & I found myself quickly into P3 but arrived there with a bit too much speed for the conditions and ended up wide after a nudge from behind which see me fall down to 5th. From that point onwards the race just started unravelling with cones flying at me where I was off wide and dropping back place after place and in the end was plum last.

The fight restarted again to start working my back up the pack and was then spun out. I was awarded an ABC in my favour but with the conditions and how long it took to catch up with the pack the day was over for me really and the best that I could manage was P9 in the A Final.

It's important to try and take some positives out of every race I think in the Super League or you could very quickly become very disheartened with it and as I'm often told over there, I'm very quick to focus on the negatives and not the positives. So what can you take out of a weekend like this?

  1. Without the take out in the first heat, I would have won that, so that is a definite positive, I must be doing something right.

  2. Every point that I achieve helps me towards climbing up the Championship table.

  3. The biggest positive that I can think of is - It's got to stop raining eventually, right?

Until Round 8 we won't know what's going to happen!
