Brentwood Race League - Season 7 - Round 9

Updated: Jun 5, 2023

It's Sunday morning and we are back at Brentwood Karting for Round 9 of the Championship, not gonna lie this week was always going to be a tuff one following my 5 place grid penalty for winning Round 8, so I needed to be on top of my game.

Had a really positive Qualifying this week which I was really pleased about as this relieved some of the pressure straight away and put my kart on pole. Heat 1 was pretty straight forward as I got off of the line really well, Riley who was following behind me pulled into P2 and did a great job at defending his position which gave me breathing space to put in some solid laps to pull a gap, in the end I won the heat by over 2 seconds and secured the much needed win.

Heat 2 I started at the back of the grid in P13 for my penalty for winning Heat 1. Again, I knew that I needed a solid performance to ensure that I banked as many points as possible to get myself as far up the table as possible for the final.

I didn't get as good of a start as I hoped I would, but made up some positions on the less experienced drivers on the track by being really late on the breaks going into Swimming Pool. After that I just kept pushing as hard as I could and put the pressure on the drivers in front. I finally had to settle for P3 as I just couldn't get anymore out of the kart, overall was really happy with the performance.

Going into the A Final I was starting P8 on the grid, normally I would say that was a disaster of a round, however, considering the big grid penalty I had I thought that it was already a positive day.

When the final started off there was quite a bit of chaos going into Swimming Pool with Ben being pushed out wide, so I did have to lift off to avoid taking us both out of the race when he bounced off of the barrier back onto track. I kept pushing and took advantage of people going wide and soon found myself in 4th place. On the final lap of the race I was pushed wide which was deemed a racing incident and no penalty given which dropped me down to finish P6. It was not the result I was hoping for or needed, but you are going to have weeks where decisions rightly or wrongly do not go in your favour, that's racing. However, I still went home with a trophy from Round 8 and next week I have no grid penalties to serve.

We are now in the closing stages of the Championship. Onwards to Round 10 with 3 more weeks to go. Let's keep pushing.
