Brentwood Race League - Season 7 - Round 2

Updated: Jun 5, 2023

So here we go, Round 2 at Brentwood. I already knew that this was going to be a tough day as the Groups were released on Saturday and looking at them all 3 of us that are in the top 3 spots of the league are all in the same group and we all have grid penalties to serve.

I qualified 2nd in the group but I really didn't get a very good getaway in the heat as the kart went nowhere off of the line and immediately lost out 3 possibly 4 places. I had some great battles and managed to work my way up to 2nd but towards the end of the heat, the kart was just lacking power and I slowly started dropping down the pack. In the end I finished 4th, which wasn't a huge disaster as in the next heat I would start on pole but wasn't my best of performances.

In Heat 2 I started on Pole. It was a rolling start and I backed the pack up as best as I could before pulling away at the lights. The lights were late in changing and I thought that it was going to be a false start but see the change and tried to pull away as quickly as possible. Thanks to the defensive driving that was going on behind me I was relatively left alone and not put under any pressure so gradually started pulling a gap. In the end I had a comfortable lead and won with an 8 second gap.

Going into the Final, I had a 2 place grid penalty from my previous weeks podium but was confident that with my P1 and P4 finish I would make it into the A Final..... I did!

I was starting P6 in the A Final and was hopeful of a good result. It was a reverse track with a Le Man style start. We have done a few of these now so I knew what to expect. I didn't get the best of getaways as I did slip a little on the start, however there was someone that didn't get off the line at all, so I went straight round them and then followed Jacob which put me straight into P4 by the first corner.

The race was pretty uneventful until my GoPro went flying off mid race, this was then rescued by Ben the Marshal who continued to vlog for me. Very close to the end of the race, Phoenix spun which I managed to avoid and went up into 3rd. I remained there for the rest of the race to claim my 2nd podium in 2 weeks and was really pleased!

This has now left me sitting in 2nd in the Championship, trailing by just 2 points.

Next week is going to be an interesting week as I will have a grid penalty again, however Dan has decided to put a new round in called the Super Sprint Round, no one has any clue as to what this is so it will all be a learning curve! Wish me luck.
