We are back at Brentwood karting this week for a special one-off round to race in the Super Cadet League as a Wildcard Entry. Every now & then Dan our Race Director will mix things up a bit and invite back a previous Cadet Champion to race with the latest cadets to test everyones skills.
The Cadet Super League is a newly formed League which has the best that Brentwood has to offer of our younger Cadet Drivers. I started out my karting journey many years ago in the Cadet League but now there are many new drivers, so this was going to be a challenge. I knew this was going to be hard as I am 61 kgs compared to everybody else who is underneath 40 kgs, but this was all about having fun this week and it definitely lived up to it.
For my first heat we did F1 style qualifying where I qualified P9 which I was actually very surprised about. In the first heat I got my way up to P3 which was pretty good however I had a kart behind me who was very fast so I attempted to defend however left the inside open which allowed 3 karts past both of us & put me back to P7 however after they started battling I made my way back up to P6 which I was actually very happy about considering where I started.
For heat 2 quali I qualified P12 which was not great however I made my way up during the race but the kart I had wasn't very good, so I had to manage and stick with P9 which wasn't awful considering the kart I had didn't feel that good.
In the a final I started P9 so this was definitely going to be a challenge to hopefully make my way up during this race I slowly moved up the pack and the kart felt very good so I used it to maximise my speed and slowly but surely I was making up places slow during the race and ended up finishing P2 but had it been one more lap I could have potentially got the win however I was very happy with P2 on my first round back in cadets.
It's a big thank you to Brentwood Karting for inviting me back to race as a Cadet once again, to do this one-off round it was very fun and thoroughly enjoyed and it's good to know that the drivers are still very competitive.
Wishing the best of luck to the rest of the drivers for the remainder of the season.
