Brentwood Karting Race League - Season 8 - Round 7

Updated: Jun 6, 2023

We were back to Brentwood Karting for Round 7 of the Race League after my week break from going to Silverstone to watch the British Grand Prix and I think that the break actually did me good. Before the break I was getting quite frustrated with how my racing was going and I think the break gave me a renewed determination for the season.

I headed out for Quali and straight away I wasn't really happy with the kart after 2 laps as it was really lacking in grip at the rear and was sliding everywhere, so I brought this into the pits and switched out before the Quali lap. When I got back out on track the kart didn't feel much different from the first one and I was starting to think that I had made a bad decision in switching out. Either way, it come as a big shock when I actually qualified on pole.

So we was lined up on the grid & I had Ellis next to me in P2. I didn't get a bad getaway but Ellis is lighter than me and took me going into the first corner. I kept with him throughout the lap and took him at Paddock going into the start/finish straight and was handed a ABC for the move (still not really sure why) but I gave the position back. Again, I stuck with Ellis going down towards Swimming Pool and took the lead there again of the race and stayed there to secure my first heat win of the day.

In Heat 2 I was starting at the back of the grid due to my previous win. I made good progress at the start and slowly made my way through the pack and was soon up into P4. There was a battle going on ahead of me between P3 and P2 and they ended up making contact, P2 was penalised for the incident and was given an ABC, because of this I was promoted up to P2. From there I was chasing down Mikey and in clear air I put in some really quick laps and secured the fastest lap of the day which I was really pleased with as this gave me an extra point. In the end settling for P2 in the heat but was a race to the line.

I then started the A Final in pole position. This was a reverse track race and I got a really good start. There was an incident that happened behind me so I don't really know what happened but it was decided for the race to be restarted. I was a bit gutted as I got a good start and was just hoping that I could repeat it again. On the restart again I got a really good getaway and held the lead for the duration of the race to claim the Round 7 Win and maximum points for the round along with the extra point for the fastest lap of the weekend.

Next week will be a difficult one as I am now facing a 5 place grid penalty, but I am now sitting in P2 in the Championship and will keep pushing till the very end.
