Brentwood Race League - Season 6 - Round 9

Updated: Nov 9, 2022

I was back over to Brentwood Karting today for Round 9 of the Championship and with there only being a few weeks left of the season I was hoping for a strong performance as I needed one to put me back into contention for a Podium finish after a few shaky results and me missing a round due to Covid.

In the qualifying session I secured the pole, didn't get the best of starts off of the line and fell back to 2nd but soon got the kart up to pace and managed to reclaim the lead, finishing Heat 1 P1.

Due to the win in Heat 1, I was then put to the back of the grid for the Heat 2 to try and work my way through. This was a rolling start and after a few false starts we was underway. I dived straight through the middle of the pack and made good progress, however coming out of turn 1 and heading towards The Range got taken out of the race. I quickly got myself back on track and started to try and salvage as much as I could from it. I finally finished P5, which wasn't disastrous however I was hoping for better.

With the points that I accumulated over the heats and the fact that others had Grid Penalties from last weeks round I was surprised (and relieved) to be starting 3rd in the A Final. I wasn't sure on how great my kart was when it was picked at random but knew I just had to try my best to hold the position at the very least.

This week was a special week at Brentwood where Joe Knight joined us who used to race at Brentwood but has now moved on to race in the Junior Fiesta Championship and the winner of the Race got to do some passenger hot laps, so something extra to push for.

We started as usual doing a rolling start, but this time was following Joe in his car as a pace car. The race finally was underway and I managed to get a really great start, I knew I had to just get away from the pack as quickly as possible and keep the race clean. In the end I managed to secure the win with a 6 second lead (we won't say anything about what happened once I crossed the line!). I was so relieved to have got the win as this now puts me back in the running for a potential podium finish for the league if I keep pushing.

Next week will be really hard as I will have a 5 place grid penalty for claiming the win this week, so it will be trying to get the best out of every potential opportunity and hoping for another positive weekend.
